Moores homemakers, Bundaberg’s leading furniture and bedding retailer has been serving the people of Bundaberg and surrounding district for over 50 years. The business, originally called “Burfords The Homemakers”, was taken over by Kev and Isabel Moore in 1964 when the name was changed to ” Moores The Homemakers.” The showroom at that time consisted of some 464 square metres of floorspace and a Woondooma Street frontage. The business grew and expanded within the area available.
In January 1974 work began on the construction of additional floorspace. With the completion of the new building at the rear of the existing premises,it was possible to join the two and provide some 1486 square metres of showroom with a two street frontage. December 1976 saw the store taken over by Lance and Marcalee Muchow, the son-in-law and daughter of the original “homemakers”, Kev and Isabel Moore. Improvements continued and a warehouse complex was constructed in McLean Street in March, 1989. This additional storage space allowed Moores to stockpile the more popular lines of furniture and bedding so that customers would not have to wait for delivery of their purchases.
Moores commitment to expansion and customer service continued with a complete renovation and upgrade of the showroom facilities in February 1996 and this has continued on a regular basis, ever since. Michael Muchow, son of owners Lance and Marcalee Muchow took over the running of “Moores homemakers” in 2003 and established MJM Transport, based in Brisbane. This facility gives Moores access to large stocks of imported lines purchased from quality overseas suppliers in China, Malaysia and Vietnam, with regular delivery services to the store in Bundaberg.
The ongoing membership of Moores to Australia’s largest independent buying group “homemakers”, enables Moores to combine with other independently owned stores to improve their buying power and supply only the finest quality furniture and bedding, from leading Australian manufacturers and overseas suppliers, at the lowest possible prices, meaning better value for money for Moores customers.
A ”homemakers” store is usually owned and operated by people from the local community who appreciate and value custom from members of that community and because of this, the customer can be assured of friendly, personal and caring service. In 2013, Michael Muchow took ownership of Moores becoming the third generation of the Moore/Muchow family to be involved in this local furniture and bedding store. Michael also expanded his Brisbane warehouse and now imports directly himself, thus adding additional products to the already extensive range, offered by the “homemakers” group.
Michael’s drive and passion for the furniture and bedding industry means he is committed to ensure that the principles on which ‘Moores homemakers” was built, that of friendly, personalised customer service, from local professional people, is maintained.
Come on in and let us be of service to you.
