How long is a king single? Australian bed size guide

Australian bed sizes can be confusing, especially when single, long single and king single all sound similar. Here's a quick guide to standard Australian mattress sizes and who each one suits.

Australian mattress sizes

  • Single: 92 x 187cm
  • Long single: 92 x 203cm
  • King single: 106 x 203cm
  • Double: 137 x 187cm
  • Queen: 153 x 203cm
  • King: 183 x 203cm
  • Super king: 203 x 203cm

Sizes can vary by a centimetre or two between brands.

How long is a king single?

A king single is 203cm long – the same length as a queen or king – and 106cm wide. That's about 16cm longer and 14cm wider than a standard single.

Why choose a king single?

  • Growing kids and teens: it's long enough for an adult, so it won't be outgrown.
  • Taller adults sleeping alone: more room to stretch out than a single.
  • Guest rooms: comfortable for adults without taking up as much space as a double.
  • Adjustable beds: king single is one of the most popular sizes for adjustable bases. Two long singles side by side also make a split king.

Single vs long single vs king single

A long single is the length of a king single but the width of a single – handy in narrow rooms or for tall people. A king single gives you the extra width as well.

Check your room and bedding

Allow about 60cm of walking space around the bed, and remember king single bedding is its own size – standard single sheets won't fit.
